What's the point in wasting time and resources to create something which will prolly be inferior to vent.

It would be nice but not needed. Vent and ts work just fine I think. Save that money for more content

It will be massive fail. WoW voice chat demonstrates this, it sucks major balls. Just get vent, much easier and doesn't require you to be logged in to talk to people.

Because most random players don't have vent, or care to install it, for casual play. Vent is good and all when it's an organised group, but completely impractical most of the time.

Because most random players do not need voice communication? Do you want to hear random noobs screaming in pugs? Seriously, If you need it, there is no problem to get it, if you don't... you don't.

Maybe we will need it in GW2.

I use the chat feature of LOTRO when playing with friends and family and really appreciate it for those situations. It makes it much more interactive and nearly as good as being in the same room with them, and the integrated chat in LOTRO is convenient. The only people you hear or hear you there are those in your fellowship (part y). I suspect that if GW2 gets chat it would be the same. Everyone else would be excluded, you wouldn't hear them and they wouldn't hear you.

It's a lot more data to relay for the servers then it is now, requiring them to expand (double, triple?) their current bandwidth to add voice chat.

I think its a great idea. Implement it for only parties (which I must assume is what it would be used for), and/or guild chat (not as likely though), and I would love it. Add a symbol for someone in your party who has it enabled, and you will be able to keep track of who can hear you or not. Someone annoys you? Turn VoiP off. I turn of voicechat in CS when I get annoyed. Its a pretty good feature that I hope they implement.

As I recall, it would be NCSoft pushing this. Not ANet. And should this happen, (and I fully expect it will- progress will happen) I would expect NCSoft to have servers dedicated for this application- not reside on the same servers as the game.

In addition, I would think this would be the appropriate time for NCSoft to extend a partnership to one of the big boys who have already been working on this (TS/Vent) for some time.

Because if NCSoft creates their own, both of those companies will feel some loss of revenue.

It gets the job done *very* well. Vital communication can be the tipping point in winning or losing a battle. It's hard to do with text because in the time you're typing what to do in an 'oh-shit' situation, you're losing. Being able to say "hay mage sheep that guy quick" in a second is awesome, and my guildies have been actually doing heroics in pugs due to how much better you can communicate. It's also the main reason my teams do so well in TF2, CS and others: It's not that I kick a lot of ass at them, I inform them what's coming, what to do, etc., and that's teamwork. And because of teamwork, you win.

So voice-chat in GW2, please.

And they might have tried, just like I think they tried to add in an auction house before they found out that they just couldn't.

I think this is good. Hire someone who can integrate either TS or Vent into the game and have NC Soft (who has all the money) set up servers since, I believe, other NC Soft games have in game voice chat, do they not? Then they can run everything on one set of servers and not worry about people who don't want to use it getting lag from those that do.

Ha! I pointed out the same thing in IRC. But reffering to video chat since no MMOG has done this yet. (Didn't Dungeons and Dragons Online do voice chat with their client too?) And was promptly shot down, kicked to the curb, and left to cry in a corner (after all the p0rn comments about video chat).

DDO only did voice chat, IIRC. DDO died because there was limited content, from what I remember.

Video chat in MMORPGs would never, never happen. The obvious reason is that it breaks immersion. The other reason is that it would drain half the world's bandwidth.

By integrating voice chat, they alienate a large % of potential players and/or create a subgroup of players that will simply H/H exclusively (more so than they do now).

Just like the ability to ping builds causes build snobs to arise, having voice chat as a standard feature means you'd get guilds or teams that demand you use it. Frankly, I don't want to hear the voice of that female elementalist that's wearing the most revealing armor, nor do I want to hear other players asking me to taker my character's armor off and dance w/ them.

It also is immersion breaking - I'm not saying people need to talk in old English, but it's a lot easier to ignore all the "noob this, pwn that" conversations when they're text.
